Fertility Notes- a fertility blog with all the news your womb can use

The Best Cool Mom Blogs (According to Me)

by Gabrielle on May 11th, 2008

Just because I’m not a fan of Mother’s Day doesn’t mean I don’t love the moms. I loves the moms. I love the mom bloggers - especially those that remind me that I can still have a life after (hopefully) popping one or two out.

When Cheryl Miller interviewed me for her article in the New Atlantis, she asked that question, “Do you read ‘mommy blogs’?” And my answer was yes, well, kind of. Like all of my reading material, I am pretty particular. There are blogs that I read that have morphed into mommy blogs - women who blogged and found themselves pregnant, or even better, bloggers who had been blogging about their struggles with fertility issues who were finally able to celebrate a pregnancy and then child. If you are a fabulous and bright woman, I am not going to dump you off my bookmarks just because you happen to have a little one now.

I am not crazy about baby-only/child-only focused mommy blogs - ….and then we went to play school and then his granny came over and made me crazy and then oh wait, here’s 100 photos of my little in various positions doing the same thing….Sorry. I don’t tolerate that in real life, so why would I in the virtual one where I have a little more control?

I love mommy blogs with a purpose: Check out www.themotherhood.com as an example (and don’t forget to visit www.dailytomorrow.com for a big ole’ green lineup.)

I adore the mom blogs like that remind me that my identity will not ooze out of me along with the afterbirth. Here are some of my top picks (Rockstar Mommie, I understand but mourn your departure from the blogosphere!):

And lastly, I get a little scared, then inspired, then freaked out, then amazed again, but darn it I can’t stop reading The Shape of a Mother. This is probably the ultimate mother’s day blog. From its creator:

It is my dream, then, to create this website where women of all ages, shapes, sizes and nationalities can share images of their bodies so it will no longer be secret. So we can finally see what women really look like sans airbrushes and plastic surgery. I think it would be nothing short of amazing if a few of our hearts are healed, or if we begin to cherish our new bodies which have done so much for the human race. What if the next generation grows up knowing how normal our bodies are? How truly awesome would that be?

Awesome indeed. Happy mother’s day, moms.  And to all you wanna-be’s like me, if you’re in the Rehoboth Beach area this afternoon, come find me. Your first margarita’s on me.

Great links…..thanks for sharing! :) For the record, I hated Mother’s Day for many years, too (for different reasons from you). This morning I woke up with a happy heart. I even mentioned to my sister that this is a first for me. And I’m glad for it. :)

    Gab:

I love that last one! It actually makes me feel much better about my body to see all these other women and hear their stories.

However, I don’t think I’ll ever get accustomed to having so much cellulite! ha ha ha!

Nice collection of blogs. When my kids were young, the Internet was still pretty unknown for most young moms; I was very much in the minority. I think it’s great that there are now ways for moms to talk to each other like this.
