Happy Eostre! A Day of Rebirth and a Celebration of Fertility
Or Easter. Or whatever you’re into. Eostre is thought to be the name of an Anglo-Saxon goddess whose feast day was Christianized to Easter:
Eostre represents the re-birth of life and nature after the harsh weather of the winter months. The egg, which may be a symbol of Eostre, is believed to represent that very re-birth.
She could also be a Germanic goddess of fertility.
If Easter is your thing, connections between fertility and all those eggs aren’t hard to draw. Many Christian church services today will unwrap icons veiled in purple cloth throughout Lent and use readings that celebrate the resurrection and return of Christ. The re-birth of life.
Isn’t it crazy how so many modern day holidays (holy days) can be traced to celebrations of fertility? Remember our Christmas conversation?
Today I am trying to embrace that feeling of fertility and renewal. And hope.

Is the holiday named for the hormone or is the hormone named for the holiday?
