Fertility Notes- a fertility blog with all the news your womb can use

Baby, Let Me Know. You’ll Let Me Know….

by Gabrielle on December 31st, 2007

Girl hol-la!

If I did this right, you’re listening to Aaliyah’s We Need a Resolution (or will be, once you click Play). Because I’ve been singing it to myself all morning in preparation for this post.

I need some resolutions.

How about these?

  • Under promise; over deliver.

At work. At home. With friends. With colleagues. With bosses. I am the worst at making commitments that are unrealistic. As in, “yes, definitely, I will write that report and draft a letter to the attorney today,” when I know my day is already filled with big tasks. Likewise, the only scuffles I have gotten into with pals in 2007 all stemmed from me committing to being someplace and then not being there, or me promising to make that dinner or that get-together only to find that circumstances wouldn’t allow it. I need to totally take a cue from my husband and always say, “maybe” or “I will try,” instead of over zealously saying “Yes! Yes! Yes!” That way, people are always pleasantly surprised, not totally p*ssed.

  • Amp up my professionalism.

I am blessed to have an amazingly flexible work schedule. Demanding. challenging - yes. But huge props to my office for understanding that a good work+life fit = higher productivity and a dedicated staff. But as a result of this flexibility, perhaps I have let too much of my private life sneak into my professional. In a place like Fertility Notes, the two are inextricably linked. That doesn’t need to be the case in my other office. So, I think for 2008, especially because there are some big things on the horizon, I will be more careful about when/how I use my work email, what websites I check during work hours and how much detail I share about my sick days when other co-workers (besides my pals in the office) are around. At the same time, I will do a better job not talking/thinking/obsessing about work when I am supposed to be home watching movies and having dinner with my sweetie.

  • Focus on finances.

Oh IF friends, you know as well as I do that the price of infertility is high. This year, I will more vocally advocate for affordable solutions, go in search of more funding and financial assistance opportunities (for you and me) and publicize them here, and try to stay on a fast and focused path towards addressing and deleting our own debts. D*mn you, Bank of America.

  • Go Green.

I mean totally green. We are almost there with what we eat and how we clean. What I find hardest to do away with is the massive amount of plastic (and cheap plastic at that) that I use in the kitchen for storage. I love my little dollar store stackable fake tupperware. But it can’t be good for my insides. It just can’t. It’s gotta go.

  • Fill my free time with things I LOVE to do.

Because I have to hope that our days of being a family of two are limited. Therefore, all of my quiet time, my sweet private time, will be cherished. It will not be wasted on worrying, fretting, procrastinating, or any other activity that I don’t feel adds value to my life in some way, shape or form. Positive vibes invite positive things, right?

i like your resolutions, especially the plastic container one. it’s also an issue for us.
The link below has a non plastic bento box type thing if you bring lunch to work:

If you find anything else you like please list it in the future.

    Awesome link! thank you, stacyb!

Speaking of bringing lunch to work, I am currently green (with envy) over a sweet patchwork lunch bag that one of my co-workers found in her grandma’s attic…
