Beds, Backs, Chi, and Oh Yes, Fertility
Now, I know that I said messing with your bed space messes with your feng shui when it comes to fertility. But, honestly, after the nth day of waking up to sore backs and necks and getting angrier as we pulled the covers over our lumpy, too small, too old, too cheap mattress, hubby and I decided it was high time we bought a new bed.
And we did. And it is heavenly.
We were just out for a regular shopping trip on Saturday. In between the Wegmans and the Lowes, we walked into a new mattress store (grand opening. I had a coupon. I always have coupons) and were greeted by the nicest, non-pushy salesperson (how’s that for an oxymoron). We explained our predicament and the price we were willing to pay. She then took us over to this computer which asked us questions about our aches and pains and set us down on what looked like a twin sized bed which was actually connected to the computer and took a measurement of how our spines were aligned. At least that’s what they told us. The computer then spit out a print out of the beds in the store that would best suit us and rated them: Good, Better, Best (reasonable, expensive, indulgent).
We spent the next hour hopping from bed to bed, trying out different pillows, different degrees of firmness. Here’s a cool trick: if your mattress is adequately supporting you, you should be able to hold up your arm perpendicular to your body and no one should be able to push it back down. We tried this several times and when we thought the salesperson was pulling our legs, we tried the trick ourselves. It works! We found the bed we wanted and were ready to walk out the door and deliberate some more, when the lovely lady at the shop said, “We can have it delivered by tomorrow. You could be sleeping on this in a day.” We nearly fainted. We made the purchase, opted for a great financing package (grand opening) and set the delivery time.
And now we have it. A gorgeous KING SIZE semi-firm mattress that just fits our bedroom. I can’t begin to explain the difference and how I am feeling this morning. I feel alive. Awake. Well-rested, even. We even skipped the gym to sleep in a little more this morning. That’s gotta be some good chi, right?
Why am I blathering on about all of this? Because whether or not you’re down with the feng shui and flow of positive energy and all that jazz, the quality and amount of sleep that you get is connected to fertility. So when you go to sleep tonight, think about your surroundings and what you’re sleeping on. It usually doesn’t require a full-on new bed to make your evenings more restful. Consider a new pillow, new sheets, heavier or lighter blanket….it is the season of giving, you know. Treat yourself to something nice.
