Feng Shui and Fertility

by Gabrielle on December 5th, 2007

fn20071207bamboo.jpgLast month I was kind of on a feng shui kick. You know, trying to create an environment in our apartment that would let good energy flow freely and would send bad energy out the window. When I shared my obsession with some of my online pals, one asked, “Are you trying to increase your fertility via feng shui? I’ve heard you can.”

Actually, I hadn’t been. I was just trying to clean up my clutter and give myself a reason to buy some new stuff and this new age-y book I picked up at the library had given me a reason to do both.

But then I started wondering, could you increase your fertility simply by shifting that chair over there and moving that plant over here? According to a Feng Shui E-Zine:

Renowned feng shui writer, Lillian Too, credits every book to her daughter Jennifer, whom she says was conceived after a feng shui master visited her home and saw that a tree was blocking her front door and that once removed she would become pregnant. True to his prediction – and after nine infertile years of marriage – Lillian’s daughter was born. This was also what launched her full study and practice of feng shui.

I’m not sure that I see the connection, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try it out. And keeping a path to and from your front door free and clear does make some sense. Feng shui folks also recommend keeping your bed (and under your bed) clean and clutter free whilst trying to conceive. So the energy can circulate and such. But strangely enough, you aren’t supposed to dust nearby. Also avoid any and all remodeling or renovations. Keep your place calm. Go buy some fruit trees. They’re symbols of fertility. As are dragons, elephants, red lanterns, double fish, shoots of bamboo. Check out Feng Shui Crazy and the Red Lotus Letter for even more.
