There’s a Full Moon Out Tonight
CURRENT MOON
Oww oooo! In case you didn’t notice, it’s a full moon tonight. If you’re trying to conceive the traditional way (you know, by doing it), you may want to know that:
Women’s periods have been tied to the moon and the lunar cycle for literally thousands of years. Before modern science came along to explain that a woman menstruates because of her changing hormones, it was generally accepted that a woman’s periods followed the lunar cycle. After all, the moon controls the ocean, why not women’s bodies? As a result, some believe that it is possible for a woman to have two fertile times during her menstrual cycle: the first occurring when she ovulates and the second according to her lunar phase fertility period. Most women today live in urban environments where the moon is no longer a significant contributor to nocturnal light. The fact that women who work on night shifts, where they are exposed to strong light at night, often experience menstrual irregularities, is just one example of how rhythms of light and darkness do influence hormonal physiology, including the menstrual cycle.
Irregular work hours and reliance on night shifts may be one of many reasons why doctors in India are noticing a significant increase in infertility in women who are in the IT industry.
Sigh.
So, in this day and age, I think it’s safe to say that much as we would like to be, we are not as tied to our lovely moon as much as we used to be. But let’s, just for one evening, just forget about that and go have a romp with our loved one.
Let’s blame it on the moon.
