Start Your Engines!

Today is the infamous Monster Mile at the Dover Speedway in Delaware. Where over 130,000 people pay good money to watch adults go around and around and around for over 400 laps on a tiny little track. Seemingly going nowhere but focused on the finish line. How do they not get dizzy?
We drove past the Speedway on the way home from the beach yesterday. The miles of RVs, tents and vehicles always amaze us. All of these people!! All cheering and celebrating and hoping their guy gets to the finish line. Even better if they get there first.
What would NASCAR be without its fans? It would be a pointless exercise that most likely frustrates drivers and crews more often than not – overheated engine, blown tires, rainy tracks, argh! And I am guessing the tight curves and repetitive motion makes them a little dizzy, even if they aren’t willing to admit it. Never mind the revving of engines, the throttling up to full speed, only to get pulled behind a yellow flag, a caution, or worse yet, a red. Nope. Stop what you’re doing. I know you thought you were driving along just fine but you need to completely stop and just hang out for a while until somebody figures out what’s going wrong somewhere on the track. Thank goodness the fans are there. Cheering, urging, supporting. Or else it would be enough to drive you batty.
Seeing any connection here?
Where would 6 million of us be without our support groups? Whether familial or virtual, those of us living with infertility and some of us trying to overcome it are often faced with multiple assisted attempts at pregnancy with more stops and false starts than any day at the Monster Mile. For months, you can feel like you are diligently going round and round and round, only to have a cycle called off for one reason or the other.
I hope that Fertility Notes serves as a meeting place and resource for those of you still on the track, waiting patiently for that green light.
